Ratha Yatra (Chariot Festival)


What: An Indian multi-cultural festival known as the Ratha Yatra will be celebrated at the Hindu Center with wholesome fun and entertainment for the whole family. When: Sunday, June 25th, 2017, 9.30 AM to 8 PM. Where: Hindu Center, 7400 City View Drive, Charlotte, NC 28212 Hosted by: Shri Jagannath Society of North Carolina (SJSNC) Who: All are welcome. Free admission. On Sunday, June 25th, 2017, hundreds of people will gather at Hindu Center Temple grounds for the annual Ratha Yatra. The parade will leave from the front of Hindu Center temple and will proceed through City View Drive. Devotees will get a rare opportunity to conduct Archana services while the deities are on the Ratha. Book an Archana and pledge your support: Make a donation using PayPal or a credit/debit card: The large, colorful float will be lavishly decorated and accompanied by scores of people pulling it by ropes. Devotees will be singing devotional songs (kirtans), dancing and playing musical instruments alongside it. The parade returns to Hindu Center Temple Grounds and the festival continues in Vihar Hall (located next to the temple grounds) until 4:30PM. The cultural event features traditional dance, drama, music performances, classical Indian dance (Odishi, Bharatnatyam) and exhibits on Indian spirituality and culture. The temple ground will also have children’s activities, traditional Indian dress booths, face painting/henna tattoos, and an array of food stalls with various snack and lunch fares to choose from. The cultural event, will be followed by a free multi-course vegetarian feast called the Maha Prashad.
