Every Brilliant Thing presented by Three Bone Theatre

Comedy, Comedy/Drama, Drama, Experimental/Perf. Art

“[A] heart-wrenching, hilarious play…One of the funniest plays you’ll ever see about depression—and possibly one of the funniest plays you’ll ever see, full stop...” – The Guardian (UK) The little girl is seven years old. Mom’s in the hospital. Dad says she’s “done something stupid.” She finds it hard to be happy. So the child starts to make a list of everything that’s brilliant about the world. Everything that’s worth living for: 1. Ice cream. 2. Water fights. 3. Staying up past your bedtime and being allowed to watch TV. 4. The color yellow. 5. Things with stripes. And she leaves it on her mom’s pillow in the hopes of making her feel better. The list takes on a life of its own as the little girl grows up and faces her own struggles with mental illness. Following sold-out runs in London and New York and a special performance on HBO, Three Bone Theatre is proud to present the regional premiere of Every Brilliant Thing, written by Ducan Macmillan with Jonny Donahoe. In this remarkable one-woman show, award-winning comedienne Tania Kelly enlists the audience as co-conspirators in the plot to celebrate life and turns them into members of an ensemble that creates the evening's story. Three Bone Theatre is Charlotte’s home for the best of adult contemporary theatre and recently received the 2017 George A. Parides Professional Theatre Award from the North Carolina Theatre Conference. Six performances: May 17-19 and 24-26 at The Duke Energy Theatre at Spirit Square Tickets: $22 in advance, $28 at the door, $18 for groups of 10 or more when purchased in advance Every Brilliant Thing is recommended for ages 14+ "A perfect balance between conveying the struggles of life, and celebrating all that is sweet in it."- The Independent (London)
