Coming Home: Re-entry After Incarceration

"Coming Home" is a collaborative photo-essay documentary exhibit, featuring the photographs of Errol Daniels and writings of Katherine Russell. Theexhibition seeks to humanize the criminal justice statistics and to portray the challenges of post-incarceration life through the written word and photographs. On view through July 15. Opening reception June 14, 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Errol Daniels will be in attendance, as will Tanisha Murden, one of the subjects of the exhibit. Kirk Irwin, executive director of the Friday Arts Project and a board member of the Arts Council of York County, will conduct a panel discussion with Errol Daniels and JoAnn Blackwell, Alston-Wilkes Society Community Service Coordinator in Rock Hill, SC. During the reception, and throughout the exhibit, the Arts Council of York County will collect items to donate to the Alston Wilkes Society. Please consider dropping off an item from their wish list: toothpaste, toothbrushes, shaving cream, razors, deodorant, men’s underwear (all sizes) and socks.

Tie-Dye Everything with Katherine Petke

Experiment with color by learning the art of tie-dyeing a masterpiece! In this class, students will learn about the color wheel and all its possible color combinations, and will learn how to create the different patterns and designs that can only be created through tie dyeing. Each child will need to bring two white t-shirts to the class.

The Arts Council of York County invites the public and the members of the Arts Council to the 40th Annual Arts Celebration on Thursday, June 28, 2018 at the Center for the Arts, 121 East Main Street, Rock Hill, at 5:30 PM. Join the Arts Council in celebrating another remarkable year for the artistic community of York County! The Annual Celebration includes highlights from the past year, along with presentations of the Ben Ardrey Volunteer Award, and the Business & the Arts Partnership Award. Immediately following the program, stay for a reception with light hors d’oeurvres and festive drinks. Justin L. Addington, the new Director of Music and Organist at St. John’s United Methodist Church, is set to perform showtunes during celebration and reception. The Arts Council’s Annual Celebration is a FREE event.
