Chris Robinson Brotherhood

Rock

This Los Angeles blues rock band formed in 2011 by Black Crowes singer Chris Robinson while The Black Crowes were on hiatus. The band is on the road in 2017 supporting their fourth studio album, “Anyway You Love, We Know How You Feel,” and its follow up companion EP, “If You Lived Here, You Would Be Home By Now,” both out via Robinson's Silver Arrow Records. Tracks have already been laid for another new studio album and the “Betty’s Blends, Vol. 3” live release later this year. Writing, recording and creating at a compelling clip, while performing an ever growing number of sold out shows across the U.S., Robinson is as energized as he's ever been in what's already been a long and historic career as one of rock music's most prolific and successful songwriters and frontmen. Joined by guitarist Neal Casal, keyboardist Adam MacDougall, bassist Jeff Hill and drummer Tony Leone, The CRB (as they are affectionally known to fans), are on the verge of their most inspired and prolific year yet.

Major

R&B/Soul

With single name admirers such as Sting, Oprah, Stevie and Obama, it’s no surprise when those that surround this timeless artist make the point that his name is spelled in all caps with the period – MAJOR. And for many other performers this could appear as a bit overly confident. Good thing for MAJOR. it’s his real name and he has the chops to back the point.

Psychedelic Furs

Rock,Alternative

The Psychedelic Furs, whose name belies their punk-influenced music, were formed in England in 1977 by brothers Richard and Tim Butler, along with saxophone player Duncan Kilburn and guitarist Roger Morris. By the time they released their self-titled debut album in 1980, the group had become a sextet, adding guitarist John Ashton and drummer Vince Ely. That album reached the Top 20 in England. "Talk Talk Talk" of 1981 reached the U.S. Top 100. "Forever Now" (1982) saw the band reduced to a quartet with the departure of Kilburn and Morris. The rest moved to the U.S., turned to producer Todd Rundgren, and scored a U.S. Top 50 hit with "Love My Way." Ely then left, and the remaining trio of the two Butlers and Ashton made "Mirror Moves" (1984), the biggest Psychedelic Furs hit yet. They reunited in 2000.

BAD BAD HATS

Indie, Pop

Bad Bad Hats is an indie rock band from Minneapolis, Minnesota. The band consists of Kerry Alexander, Chris Hoge, and Connor Davison. Named for a trouble-making character from the Madeline children's books, Bad Bad Hats is defined by a balance of sweet and sour. Their music honors classic pop songwriting, with nods to nineties rock simplicity and pop-punk frivolity. Through it all, Alexander's unflinchingly sincere lyrics cut to the emotional heart of things. Lightning Round, the band's second full-length album, finds Bad Bad Hats more confident and mature than ever. Producer and collaborator Brett Bullion (who also produced Psychic Reader) encouraged the group to record live in the studio, an approach which pushed the band outside of their comfort zone and lends many songs on the record a loose, organic feel. There is a vulnerability in this (fluttering tape loops, a few wrong notes) and it makes the music on the new album feel as honest and unpredictable as Alexander's lyrics. In this spontaneous environment, Hoge, who is known to play every instrument in the band, delivers some of his most inspired musical performances yet. As for Alexander, she's still writing love songs, ones that recount with cinematic swell the subtle joy and pain of the everyday. Her vocals are supported by open, breathing arrangements that feature lush keyboard sounds and woody guitar tones. Davison was recruited to play drums on the album and became a full-time member in the process. His drumming and melodic contributions give the new songs a level of nuance not heard in previous releases. Lightning Round marks the final release with contributions from original member Noah Boswell, who will be leaving the group this fall to pursue a master's degree. Bad Bad Hats continues with Alexander, Hoge, and Davison. They have plans to tour the country this year.

The Floozies with Sodown

Funk, Electronic

Just outside the jazz mecca of Kansas City springs liberal oasis Lawrence, Kansas -- separated only by the waves of wheat from the epicenter of the electronic music revolution in Colorado. From Lawrence, it would logically follow that an act could rise to prominence fueled by the swing of Basie, the birth of Charlie Parker's bebop, and the wild frontier of electronica. Born in funk and bred in the digital age, live electronic duo The Floozies have burst onto the scene at a time when the industry needed them the most. Well versed in everything from Chris Cornell to Kavinsky, the sonic vision shared by the brothers eschews contemporary electronic influences in favor of broader, deeper tastes including Zapp & Roger, Lettuce, and Amon Tobin. That wide-angle view of a century of popular music allows the Hills to remix Toto and The Dead -- in the music you can hear reverence for the giants of the past, all the while producing wildly futuristic tunes for the masses to dig now. When the pendulum swung as far as it could away from live instrumentation to laptops, The Floozies rose up to the challenge, swinging as hard as they could in the other direction with neck-snapping, knee-breaking funk so dirty that the gatekeepers stood up, wiped themselves off, and took notice. A bold live show full of sonic exploration and unbreakably deep pocket grooves has landed the brothers on stage with luminaries of the jam world Umphrey's McGee as readily as electronic elites STS9 and Big Gigantic. Sold out shows across the Country, huge festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, High Sierra, Summercamp, Wakarusa, Camp Bisco, Summerset, Bumbershoot, and a sold out Red Rocks show with Griz have continued to cement the duo's ascent. The Floozies are bringing the funk back, and they're right on time.
