Joe Pug

Rock,Folk,Americana/Roots

The rise of Joe Pug, who lives in Austin, Texas, these days, has been as improbable as it has been impressive. After dropping out of the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill and taking on work as a carpenter in Chicago, he got his musical start by providing CDs for his fans to pass along to their friends. The unconventional method paid off, as thousands of requests poured in, leading to a string of sold-out shows and a record deal with Nashville indie Lightning Rod Records. He released two EPs and the albums "The Messenger" (2010) and "The Great Despiser" (2012) to wide acclaim. His latest album, "Windfall," was released in March 2015. Though he collected plenty of the requisite comparisons to early Springsteen and Dylan over his young career, on this album it's easier to hear the sway of more contemporary influences such as Josh Ritter, Ryan Adams and M. Ward.

The Freddy Jones Band

Rock,Blues

Emerging from Chicago back in 1992, The Freddy Jones Band were roots-rock specialists in the tradition of groups like Little Feat, the Dave Matthews Band and the Allman Brothers Band. Their early history includes a slot on the H.O.R.D.E. tour and their Capricorn Records debut 'Waiting for the Night' sailing the midwest charts. Their 68-minute less-radio-savvy 'North Avenue Wake Up Call,' sold less than the debut, but they kept touring until disolving in 1999. Core members Marty Lloyd and Wayne Healy, sat quietly until a August 2005 benefit concert brought the band back together. After the reunion, the band has set sail for a few dates to give back to fans who never wavered.

Ivory Layne

Pop

Ivory Layne may be young, but her music is that of an old soul. Layne started songwriting at age six but didn't take serious interest until turning fourteen. She taught herself music production, working from her bedroom and posting demos online. In 2011, her work caught the attention of Grammy award-winning producer, Ed Cash. The two wrote, produced, and released her first EP, Volume One, in 2013. Shortly after, Layne moved from her hometown of Denver, NC, to Nashville, TN, to further her artist career. With her prolific lyrics and distinct musicality, Layne was quickly signed to a publishing deal with LBK Entertainment, writing with top names in Nashville such as Jimmy Robbins, Shane McAnally, and Lori McKenna. Her sharpness in the writer's room landed her two global ad campaigns featuring her second EP's title track, “Something's Gonna Happen” (2014), and gave her opportunities to collaborate with artists such as Andrew McMahon In The Wilderness (Zombies On Broadway). Between her own work and co-writes, Layne also found time for session singing on various projects such as Needtobreathe's single, "Brother." Her well-rounded skill-sets attracted the attention of superstar, Justin Timberlake, who signed Layne to his artist development company, Villa40, in 2015. Since signing, Layne has been hard at work crafting her next project in the studio and writer’s room. Her music has flavors of her influences--Peter Gabriel, Annie Lennox, Coldplay, and Imogen Heap, while also taking on a life of its own, an authenticity unique to Layne.

X

Rock,Punk

X -- singer Exene Cervenka, singer/bassist John Doe, guitarist Billy Zoom and drummer DJ Bonebrake -- came together in Los Angeles in early 1977, Doe and Zoom (who had once played with rockabilly giant Gene Vincent) bonding over the three-chord, no-nonsense punk of the Ramones, developing their own three-chord frenzy, topped by the odd, flat, high-end harmonies of Exene and Doe. And within two years, they had conquered the burgeoning L.A. punk scene and they had Ray Manzarek of The Doors producing their first album, "Los Angeles." And from there, it was on to national fame, then worldwide acclaim, and here they are, 40+ years later, much older, much wiser and much better-rounded (and Doe also pushing his very successful solo career, and Zoom now with his own model Gretsch).

The Floozies with Sodown

Funk, Electronic

Just outside the jazz mecca of Kansas City springs liberal oasis Lawrence, Kansas -- separated only by the waves of wheat from the epicenter of the electronic music revolution in Colorado. From Lawrence, it would logically follow that an act could rise to prominence fueled by the swing of Basie, the birth of Charlie Parker's bebop, and the wild frontier of electronica. Born in funk and bred in the digital age, live electronic duo The Floozies have burst onto the scene at a time when the industry needed them the most. Well versed in everything from Chris Cornell to Kavinsky, the sonic vision shared by the brothers eschews contemporary electronic influences in favor of broader, deeper tastes including Zapp & Roger, Lettuce, and Amon Tobin. That wide-angle view of a century of popular music allows the Hills to remix Toto and The Dead -- in the music you can hear reverence for the giants of the past, all the while producing wildly futuristic tunes for the masses to dig now. When the pendulum swung as far as it could away from live instrumentation to laptops, The Floozies rose up to the challenge, swinging as hard as they could in the other direction with neck-snapping, knee-breaking funk so dirty that the gatekeepers stood up, wiped themselves off, and took notice. A bold live show full of sonic exploration and unbreakably deep pocket grooves has landed the brothers on stage with luminaries of the jam world Umphrey's McGee as readily as electronic elites STS9 and Big Gigantic. Sold out shows across the Country, huge festival appearances at Bonnaroo, Electric Forest, High Sierra, Summercamp, Wakarusa, Camp Bisco, Summerset, Bumbershoot, and a sold out Red Rocks show with Griz have continued to cement the duo's ascent. The Floozies are bringing the funk back, and they're right on time.
