Build a Bat Box

Discover how to attract bats to your backyard by building a bat box. Bats are very beneficial to having around your house as they can eat up to 1,000 mosquitos in an hour! WOW! Celebrate Rachel Carson Day!

What better way to celebrate this amazing woman than to immerse yourself in your natural surroundings. We will start out with discovering who Rachel was and why she was so important to the environmental movement and then we'll go exploring...just like she did. Jurassic Parks and Rec

Travel in time to prehistoric North Carolina and discover the dinosaurs that lived in your backyard! A hike through our nature trails will allow participants to identify species of dinosaurs specific to the region that eventually became the Carolinas, along with indigenous plants and other Jurassic organisms. Since we will embark on a dinosaur safari hike, all are welcome and encouraged to dress for the part, so put on your best vest and pith helmet and come on out! Must call 980-314-1119 to register. Family Campout at Reedy Creek!

Cornucopia

Nature

The North Carolina autumn brings with it a variety of beautiful, cold-weather plants, many of which are consumable and can be used for an array of things. From food, to medicine and decorative purposes, we will research practical uses of traditional fall crops, such as pumpkins, gourds, and squash. While we explore these edible and useful plants and learn about the local Native American tribes that once utilized these same botanicals, participants of all ages will have the opportunity to decorate their own pumpkin or gourd.
